Since the early 1960's, Huntington Beach has become known world-wide as "Surf City" after the popular rock song of the same name. Today the local tourist authorities have even trademarked this brand and use it actively to promote Huntington as the surf capital of the world. You will even find an International Surfing Museum here that bears witness to the surf culture that has sprung up in this area.
More importantly, however, is the fact that the south swell on this coast continues to produce good conditions for the sport and Huntington beach plays host to major international surfing championships every summer.
"In Huntington Beach, surfing is more than just a sport — it’s a religion; a time-honored tradition that’s been passed down generation to generation ever since Duke Kahanamoku —the Father of Surfing — first surfed the HB Pier in the early twentieth century." (Surfcityusa.com)
